Series explores literary
and visual arts
Meridian,
the literary magazine produced by U.Va.'s MFA Program in Creative
Writing, is sponsoring a series of programs examining the connection
between the literary and visual arts. Its spring issue features
"Art and the Lyric Moment," with poetry by U.Va. English
professor Gregory Orr and paintings of nationally acclaimed artist
Trisha Orr. An exhibit of their works is on display through April
30 in the Iron Gate Study Gallery of the Bayly Art Museum. In
conjunction with the exhibit, the museum will host a panel discussion
on "The Lyric Moment in Painting and Poetry" on April
27 at 7:30 p.m. in Campbell Hall, room 160. Meridian's poetry
editor, Kevin McFadden, will moderate. Panelists will include
Trisha and Gregory Orr, poet Lisa Russ Spaar, who is also director
of U.Va.'s Creative Writing program, and professor and museum
curator Stuart Downs of James Madison University. For details,
