Palmiero heads SCHEV

The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia unanimously elected Phyllis Palmiero as its director at its most recent meeting April 18.

Palmiero said the council, which advises the governor and lawmakers on policy concerning tax-supported colleges, can serve a much-needed role in higher education by making sure systems are in place to accurately measure the strengths and weaknesses of each institution as a means of preserving high quality.

Starting as an education analyst in the state Department of Planning and Budget in 1991, Palmiero rose to the post of deputy director for policy before moving to SCHEV as deputy director for administration in 1998.
