Jones
and Thorner named to academy
U.Va.
professors Anita K. Jones and Dr. Michael O. Thorner were among
154 fellows elected this year to the American Academy of Arts
and Sciences. Jones, a University Professor and professor of computer
science in the School
of Engineering and Applied Science, chairs the University's
Virginia
2020 Science and Technology Planning Commission. She served
in the Department of Defense during President Clinton's first
term.
Thorner,
the Henry B. Mulholland Professor of Internal
Medicine, chairs the internal medicine department. His current
research examines the control of growth hormone in the pituitary

With
Jones' and Thorner's membership, the estimated number of U.Va.
faculty who are AAAS fellows comes to 26. The academy, which has
approximately 4,000 members, recognizes individuals for their
achievements in science, scholarship, the arts and public affairs.
