New registrar named
Carol
Stanley, former director of student information and records at
Drexel University in Philadelphia, became U.Va.'s new registrar
July 1.
She
replaces Ann Antrobus, who retired June 30.
The
registrar's office
is responsible for student record-keeping and course scheduling.
At Drexel, Stanley, who goes by the nickname "Stash,"
oversaw the changes that have characterized registrars' offices
in the past decade, using information technology and the Web.
In addition to her administrative career, Stanley has been involved
in athletics. A former head varsity softball coach at SUNY-Binghamton,
she continues to work with women's softball teams and conduct
clinics. She has also patented a number of athletic devices: the
"Sweet Swing" (a golf training device) and the "Quick
Mitt" and "Stan-Mill Mitt" (both hand protection
systems). The latter was added to the permanent collection of
the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y., in 1988.
