Boxwoods replaced
Along
with the renovation projects under way on the Rotunda
terraces will come some new landscaping. Because the large American
boxwoods on the University Avenue side of the Rotunda, planted
there in 1959, have suffered storm damage and been weakened by
utility work in the area, they were to be removed this week. They
will be replaced this fall with English boxwoods, which will be
easier to maintain at a lower height and provide a better view
of the historic building. The project will also include replanting
the side slopes with a low-growing groundcover, a change prompted
by safety concerns with mowing grass on such steep grades.
