Curtis Thacker, 77, of Charlottesville died July 14. He was formerly employed by University Housing. Memorial donations may be made to: Owensville Pentecostal Church, Owensville Rd., Charlottesville, VA 22901.

Martin Joseph Havran, 70, of Charlottesville, died July 22. A history professor specializing in the Tudor and Stuart periods in England, he came to the University in 1968 and retired in 1999. Among his many awards, he received the Alumni Associationšs Distinguished Professor Award in 1986 and the Raven Society Faculty Award in 1987. He chaired the Arts & Sciences Steering Committee and the history department, and was a past secretary of the general faculty.

A joint memorial service for Mr. Havran and his wife, Clara L. Havran, who died in 1998, is planned for Sept 30 at 4 p.m. in the McGregor Room in Alderman Library. For more details contact Justin M.A. Havran at (804) 973-5157.

Carol Joanne Miller, 37, of Charlottesville, died July 30. She was a computer systems engineer at the University. Memorial contributions may be made to: American Cancer Society, 3042-D Berkmar Dr., Charlottesville, VA 22901.

Clarice S. Richey, 91, of Charlottesville, died Aug. 9. She was an employee of the University Library for 30 years, then became executive secretary to the late University President Edgar Shannon.
