The Health Sciences Library's Historical Collections Department has put together a fascinating Web exhibit on a little-known chapter of the University's history: its sponsorship of the 8th Evacuation Hospital during World War II. The unit, partly staffed by doctors and nurses from U.Va., built a distinguished record during three years of service in North Africa and Italy. The unit had been holding reunions every five years since 1945, but is unable to meet again this year due to the aging of its members, prompting the online exhibit.
