New director comes to Clemons Library

The University Library has named Vicki Coleman as the new director of Clemons, the undergraduate library. She replaces Jim Self, who left in February to become the director of the University Library's Management Information Services.

Coleman comes to U.Va. from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, where she had been director of the Spahr Engineering Library since 1998. She was previously head of electronic reference services at Texas A&M University.

Coleman, who begins her job Sept. 5, said she looks forward to the opportunity to work closely with undergraduate students and "with a staff that has such obvious pride in their jobs." She plans to seek suggestions from students about what services the library could better provide.

She received her B.S. in mechanical engineering from North Carolina A&T State University in 1984 and master's of Information and Library Studies from the University of Michigan in 1993.
