Block leads dean search
Vice
President for Research and Public Service Gene D. Block will
chair the search committee for a dean of the College
and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, Vice President and
Provost Peter W. Low announced this week. Low charged the committee
with identifying three candidates "with appropriate academic values
who will provide inspirational leadership for the core teaching
and scholarly functions of the College and Graduate School."
Other committee members and their affiliations include: Robert
C. Chapel (drama chair), Ellen L. Contini-Moravi (anthropology),
Robert Fatton Jr. (government and foreign affairs), Chantale Fiebig
(third-year student), Chris Gustafson (alumnus), Stephanie E.
Johnson (environmental sciences graduate student), Michael H.
Levenson (English chair), Farzaneh Milani (Asian and Middle Eastern
languages and cultures, studies in women and gender), Steven L.
Nock (sociology), Barbara Nolan (English), Brooks Pate (chemistry),
Alan Roberts (alumnus), and Robert E. Scott (Law School dean).
The
new dean will replace Melvyn P. Leffler, who announced earlier
this semester his intention to step down from the post at the
end of the current academic year to accept a visiting professorship
at Oxford University.
