Lemons leaving Wise; interim selected

University President John T. Casteen III on Oct. 3 named George E. Culbertson, provost and senior vice chancellor of the University's College at Wise, to serve as interim chancellor at the school. He will take the reins from L. Jay Lemons, who announced two days earlier that he will assume the presidency of Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pa., early next year.

Culbertson graduated from what was then Clinch Valley College in 1957, and returned to join the school's faculty in 1970. He had previously announced his intention to retire as of Dec. 31, 2001. Casteen anticipates that a new chancellor should be in place by then.
