Zintl Award call for
nominations
The
Women's Center is accepting
nominations until Nov. 20 for its leadership award in memory of
Elizabeth Zintl, a writer and journalist who served as U.Va.'s
chief of staff in the president's office until her death in 1997.
The
Elizabeth Zintl Leadership Award, made possible by the generosity
of alumnus David A. Harrison III, honors Zintl's high degree of
professionalism, creativity and commitment to U.Va. It also recognizes
that such leadership is found in many areas throughout the academic
community. The 1999 Zintl Award recipient was Dr. Sharon Hostler,
medical director of the Kluge Children's Rehabilitation Center
and McLemore Birdsong Professor of Pediatrics. The 1998 Zintl
Award was shared by Sylvia Terry, associate dean of African-American
affairs, and Patricia Lampkin, associate vice president for student
affairs.
The
annual award carries a $1,000 prize, which the honoree may use
for her professional or personal development. This year's award
will be presented in mid-February.
Nominees must be a woman currently employed at U.Va., display
excellence in work that makes a direct and significant impact
on U.Va.'s core academic enterprise, and possess an unusually
high degree of service to U.Va.
Along
with a letter of nomination, materials should include three letters
of support, also from U.Va., though it is strongly recommended
that one be from outside the nominee's department or school, and
a current resumé or vita.
