Holiday hours added

Gov. Jim Gilmore has authorized the equivalent of three days to be added to the Commonwealth of Virginia holiday schedule. Since the University is on an alternate holiday schedule, these extra three days will be observed in the academic division as "float time" -- 24 hours of compensatory leave that will be automatically credited to classified salaried employee and research assistant leave balances.

The compensatory leave time will be added to account for the following hours:

Essential University operations will be maintained as usual. Managers are asked to give maximum consideration to the preferences of employees for using the additional compensatory leave, while also coordinating employee leave so that offices are adequately staffed and service to the public is not disrupted. The compensatory leave must be used within 12 months of the date earned.

General faculty may take an additional 24 hours of leave at the discretion of their managers. The additional holiday time does not apply to Medical Center employees.

The designated holiday schedule previously set for the academic division is: Nov. 23 and 24 for Thanksgiving and the day after; Dec. 22, 25, 26, and 29, plus Jan. 1, for the winter break.
