Two U.Va. scientists elected to AAAS

Anita Jones, University Professor of Engineering and Computer Science, and Zhifeng Shao, professor of physiology, have been elected as fellows by the American Association for the Advancement of Science. They will be honored at the annual meeting Feb. 17 for their efforts in advancing science.

Jones is recognized for service as director of defense research and engineering for the U.S. Defense Department and for her research on security and operating systems. She also co-chairs the governor's Research and Technology Advisory Commission, and chairs the University's Virginia 2020 Science and Technology Planning Commission.

Shao is being honored for distinguished contributions to the development of atomic force microscopy for biological applications.
