seeking associate director for study abroad
The
University seeks nominations and applications for the position
of associate director for study abroad. A member of the general
faculty, the associate director reports to the director of the
International
Studies Office and works with the director and the Vice Provost
for International Affairs to advocate, expand and diversify study-abroad
participation, and create new study-abroad opportunities.
Specific
responsibilities include: working with the director and faculty
to assure the quality of overseas programs; developing University
policies and procedures related to international education opportunities;
working with students to facilitate their participation in study-abroad
programs; coordinating, promoting, and evaluating faculty-led
study-abroad programs; creating faculty incentive opportunities
to meet the changing needs of the institution; working with the
director and staff from key offices on budget development, fundraising
and scholarship development activities at U.Va. and nationally;
and supervising the day-to-day operations of the Study Abroad
office.
The
successful candidate must have leadership experience in study-abroad
administration and should have demonstrated ability to work effectively
with a diverse population of students, faculty, university offices
and study-abroad contacts; extended period of living, studying
and/or working abroad; and excellent interpersonal, oral and written
communication skills. A masters degree or equivalent combination
of training and experience is required. Other desired qualifications
include competency in a second language; familiarity with a variety
of cultures; experience in the development of study-abroad and
exchange programs; and budgetary and planning skills. Salary will
be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
