Give air a break

In an effort to encourage commuters to try alternative means of getting to work, the American Lung Association and Commuter Information sponsor the “Give Air a Break” program each spring to help reduce air pollution and traffic congestion. This year the organizers are asking people to think beyond one day — to make a bigger effort to use alternative means of transportation, whether that’s carpooling, taking public transportation, walking, bicycling or even skating to work.

Those employees who pledge they will use an alternative means of transportation to work, as many days as they can, will be given credit toward various awards and incentives. All pledges must be returned by noon, April 30.

Information will be distributed to departments by their respective employee council representatives. For further details, contact Jackie Cooke in Employee Relations at 924-4430 or jmc8e@virginia.edu.
