NBC
Today show host Katie Couric visited the Grounds April
12 to shoot a feature for her morning television news program.
Here, she and U.Va. President John T. Casteen III share a light
moment. Before their meeting, she interviewed one of her former
history professors, Joe Kett, Dean of African-American Affairs
Rick Turner, and fourth-year student Don Koons, who now lives
in her old Lawn room, No. 26. In between takes, Couric graciously
signed autographs, posed for snapshots and talked with students
who gathered to watch her and her crew in action.
A
1979 U.Va. honors graduate, Couric majored in American Studies
and was associate editor of the Cavalier Daily. Like Koons, she
was also head resident adviser when she lived on the Lawn.
Couric
and Today co-hosts Matt Lauer, Ann Curry and Al Roker are all
returning to their alma maters this month to produce segments
that will air on Today the week of May 21, when most
college graduation ceremonies take place nationwide.
