12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on The Healing Power of Mindfulness:
Living Your Life as If It Really Counts.
Kabat-Zinn
is an expert on stress reduction and the healing powers of mindfulness.
His visit is being sponsored by the Cancer
and Heart centers
and the departments of Internal and Family medicines.
He will also conduct a silent retreat in meditation and stress
reduction at the Kluge Morven Pavilion from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Kabat-Zinn
is the founder and former executive director of the Center for
Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care and Society and a professor
of medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
His books include Wherever You Go, There You Are: Mindfulness
Meditation in Everyday Life, and Full Catastrophe Living: Using
the Wisdom of Your Body and Mind to Face Stress, Pain and Illness.
His work has been featured on Healing and the Mind,
a Public Television series with Bill Moyers.
Kabat-Zinns
visit is part of the Universitys mindfulness-based stress
reduction program, which is supported by John and Maria Tussi
Kluge. The program involves yoga and meditation to improve health
and manage illness.
