Ryan to coach U.S. team

Women’s basketball coach Debbie Ryan will coach the U.S. Women’s Basketball team in the World Games in Beijing from Aug. 22 to Sept. 1, after which she will return to U.Va.
Ryan, who was treated for cancer last year, said she checked with her doctor and athletic director Terry Holland before accepting the post.

National team trials will be held May 18 to 21, and U.Va. guard Telisha Quarles is among the players invited to participate. Ryan will work with the team from Aug. 6 to 16 in Colorado Springs before heading to China.

Ryan has coached at U.Va. for 24 years, compiling a 544-197 record.
