Memorial efforts for Meloy

Ruth Lea Purdum Davies, 83, died April 29. A public school teacher for 30 years, much of it in Culpeper, she also worked with the McGuffey Reading Center at the University on a program designed to increase the speed and comprehension of readers.

Ellen Black Newman Eksteen, 74, of Charlottesville, died May 7. She was retired from the University where she worked as a secretary for 52 years.

Fred David Rosi, 80, of Richmond, who served as the first and only director of the University’s short-lived Energy Policies Studies Center during the uncertainty of the late-1970s energy crisis, died May 7 after a long illness.
