in miracles
When
the weekend-long Children's Miracle Network Telethon drew to a
close June 3, nearly $1.3 million had been raised to benefit U.Va.'s
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and a new research endowment for
pediatrics. Dr. Robert M. Carey, dean of the School of Medicine,
will match telethon gifts, 50 cents on every dollar, to establish
the endowment.
Hand in hand with the telethon, the annual CMC Walk-A-Thon, held
June 2, contributed $85,000 of the total.
The telethon, which raised almost $200,000 more than last year
locally, featured patients and friends of the CMC, along with
Channel 29 TV personalities (left to right): Dave Cupp, Lonnie
Quinn, Robert Van Winkle, Angell Husted, John Havey and Stacey
Horst.
Nationwide, 170 hospitals participate in the Children's Miracle
Network, which raises funds through telethons that benefit some
14 million children a year.
