Rawlings Prize deadline extended
The
Albemarle County Historical Society offers the annual Rawlings
Prize for outstanding papers on local history, with this years
deadline extended to Sept. 1.
The
contest is open to faculty (active or retired), alumni and students
of U.Va.
Prizes
up to $1,000 will be awarded at the societys November meeting
for winning essays on the history of Charlottesville and Albemarle
County, on individuals contributing to their history, or on events
affecting the local community. All manuscripts will be considered
for publication in the Magazine of Albemarle County History.
The
judging committee selects winning papers on the basis of originality
of the contribution, literary excellence and significance of the
contribution to the historical record.
Entries
should be mailed to: Rawlings Prize Competition, Albemarle County
Historical Society, The McIntire Building, 200 2nd Street NE,
Charlottesville, Virginia 22902.
The
Albemarle County Historical Society is open to the public Monday
through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to
