Mary Alice Jackson Tyler, 73, of Charlottesville,
died Feb. 12. She retired from the University of Virginia Hospital
as a supervisor in Central Supply.
William T. Tarrant III, 49, of Keswick, died Feb. 14. After
graduating from U.Va. in 1974, he became an accountant in the
U.Va.s Health System. At the time of his death, he was working
in accounting operations at Carruthers Hall.
Charles Julian Bishko, 95, of Charlottesville, died Feb.
17. He joined the faculty in 1938 and retired in 1977. In 1968
he received the Alumni Associations Distinguished Professor
Award and was a member of the Raven Society. In addition to serving
as a consulting editor of various historical journals throughout
the United States, Argentina, and Spain, his accomplishments in
the field of Spanish history were formally recognized by the Spanish
government when he was inducted as a Corresponding Member of the
Royal Spanish Academy of History and of the Academy of Fine Arts
and Historical Sciences of Toledo.
Gary L. Hawk, 54, of Charlottesville, died Feb. 20. He
joined the faculty in 1989 and retired as an associate professor
and director of psychology at the Institute of Law, Psychiatry
and Public Policy in 2001.
Charles Steward Sheppard, 86, a former dean of the Darden
Graduate School of Business Administration and a pioneer in financial
analyst professional development, died March 7 in Williamsburg.
Sheppard retired from the Darden School in 1981 after serving
as dean for eight years. He joined the University faculty in 1961
as a professor in the business school.
