More than 3,600 new U.Va. students and their families lugged bookbags, boxes and other first-year college items into their dorms last weekend. Classes began Wednesday. Other important dates to keep in mind during the 2003-04 academic year follow.

Fall Convocation: Fri., Oct. 31
Family Weekend: Fri., Oct. 31-Sunday, Nov. 2
Thanksgiving recess: Wed., Nov. 26-Sun.,

Courses end: Fri., Dec. 5
Exams: Mon., Dec. 8-Mon., Dec. 15
Fall degrees conferred: Mon., Jan. 5, 2004
(no ceremony)

Spring Semester
Classes begin: Wed., Jan. 14
