WHTJ Charlottesville PBS has teamed with the Center for Politics to produce a biographical documentary tracing the life of former Virginia Governor Lawrence Douglas Wilder. “Wilder: An American First” follows Wilder’s journey from his segregated past into the doors of Virginia’s state capital and onto the national political scene. The grandson of slaves, Wilder became the first elected African-American governor in 1990. Native Virginian and actor Blair Underwood, winner of five NAACP Image Awards, narrates the one-hour program. “Wilder: An American First” will premiere on WHTJ on Feb. 15 at 9 p.m., with an encore that night at 11:30 p.m. and on Feb. 18 at 10 p.m.
