| On April 29, editors of The Papers of George Washington, based at U.Va., presented President George W. Bush with the latest volume (the 12th of a projected 21 volumes) in the “Presidential Series.” Standing in the Oval Office (from left) are President Bush; Theodore J. Crackel, editor-in-chief of the papers; Christine Sternberg Patrick, editor; Philander D. Chase, senior editor; John C. Pinheiro, editor; and Bruce Cole, chairman, National Endowment for the Humanities. The inscription to President Bush from the four editors stated: “We are honored to present to you this volume, which follows President George Washington into his second term of office. As you too begin your second term, we wish for you the same gifts of wisdom and success that Providence bestowed on the first G.W.” |
