African-American Affairs summer film series

The University of Virginia has among the highest African-American graduation and retention rates in the nation and this is largely due to the efforts of the Office of African-American Affairs. Since its creation in 1976, the OAAA has been instrumental in implementing programs and outreach that enhance the University’s sensitivity and awareness of African-American issues, culture and history. One of the current programs is the Summer Film Series, which features a weekly movie examining some aspect of African-American culture. The Series began on June 14 and features movies on Wednesdays at 5 p.m. in Kaleidoscope at Newcomb Hall, through July 26. Probing such issues as the history of race relations in America and social divisions within the African-American community, the upcoming movies are in the grey box.
