Data with Drills

Types of Drilling

Drill Up/Down (Predefined Hierarchy): Drill
Up displays summarized information related to a selected item, and Drill Down
shows less-aggregated data or more details about an item.
Drill to a Related Item (Non-predefined Hierarchy): Drill
to a Related Item leads you to an item that is not in the hierarchy
Drill to Detail: You can either drill to
show component rows or associated folders. Drilling to component rows shows all
detail rows that make up that summary. Associated folders are folders that have
been designated “related” by the Discoverer administrator. Note:
None are designated in the ODS now.
Customizing
Displaying
the Drill Dialog Box
Use any one of the following methods to
display the Drill dialog box:

Click the right mouse
button.

Select Sheet—>Drill.
-
Double-click a data value.
-
Click the drill icon on the
toolbar.
Selecting
the Drill Type
-
Select an
item or item header and then launch the Drill dialog box. The Drill dialog box
appears with the selected item displayed.
or

Select a data value for a
hyperdrill or clear all items and then launch the drill facility. The Drill
dialog box appears with a list of items from which you can drill.

Select the type of
drill. A list of possible items to which
you can drill is displayed.

Select [OK] to execute the
query.
Setting Drill
Options

Once you have selected the type of drill to
run, you can use the Drill Options dialog box to customize the results of the
drill. The drill options are as follows:

When drilling to a new item,
current item is: Specify whether to expand or replace the drill item.

Place drill results in:
Specify whether to place the results of the drill in the current sheet or in a
new sheet.

Display results as: If the
results are to be displayed in a new sheet, specify a layout style.

Before query is run: To
perform additional layout modifications, select the “Let me modify query before
proceeding” check box, which opens the wizard.
