Hiring a Person Currently in the People Database

The Chief Human Resource Officer is responsible for ensuring that this document is necessary, reflects actual practice, and supports University policy.

When hiring employees, they may already be found in the database.  For example, they may be current employees, applicants, ex-employees, or retirees.  If you find the person you wish to hire in the database, find the person type (in the Type field on the People form) and refer to the following chart to determine what steps to take when hiring.

Follow the steps in Maintain - Change Assignment [NAV7029H].

Medical Center Employee

Non-UVA Employee

If hiring an employee who has one of these person types, contact the Integrated System Customer Support Center to have the person updated by HR.

UVA Retiree

Do not change the person type from "UVA Retiree."  Follow the steps in Add Additional Paid Assignment  [NAV7014HH].

UVA Retiree and Applicant

Do not change the person type from "UVA Retiree."  Follow the steps in Add Additional Paid Assignment  [NAV7014HH].

Ex-Employee

Follow the steps in Rehire Ex-Employee [NAV7047H].
