The Chief Human Resource Officer is responsible for ensuring that this document is necessary, reflects actual practice, and supports University policy.

Sandbox Practice Scenarios

Use the following scenarios to practice entering Human Resources data. 

These scenarios provide the data to enter into the fields.  However, they do not contain the step-by-step instructions.  Those instructions are found in the appropriate navigation instructions, indicated at the start of each scenario.

The scenarios include the following topics:

Scenario 1: Hire Salaried Faculty

Hire a salaried faculty member. 

Refer to Hire Salaried Faculty.

1. Change Effective Date to a day one week in the future.

2. Make up a name and the personal data for the faculty member.  Be sure not to use yourself or a person who is already an employee of the University.  Create information for the following sections:

People Form header information (i.e. Name, Gender, Type, SS#, etc.)

Alternate Regions:

Use the following information to complete the employee record.

3. Address:  Create two address records:

Home Address

Messenger/Office

4. Foreign Address

5. Phone Information:  Create two phone numbers.

6. Schools and Colleges Attended:  Create two schools.

7. Qualifications:  Enter two degrees.

8. Contact:  Use the LOV to enter the contact name for the spouse of the faculty member.  If the contact name is not in the database, key in the contact name in the contact form.  Make up the contact name and other information for this lab.

11.    Third work history

12.    Emp-Administrative Appointment: Create one Administrative Appointment record.

13.    Emp-Committee:  Create one Committee record.

14.    Emp-Directory Name:  Enter the full name to appear in the UVA telephone directory.

16.    EMP-HSF Information:  For SOM only (i.e. Physicians getting pay check from HSF)

Scenario 2: Hire Student Wage and Faculty Hourly Wage

Hire a student.

Scenario 3: GRA/GTA or Faculty Wage (Goal Payment)

2. Make up a name and the personal data for the Graduate Teaching Assistant.  Be sure not to use yourself or a person who is already an employee of the University.  Create information for the following sections:

People Form header information (i.e. Name, Gender, Type, SS#, etc.)
