U.Va. offers instruction in 23 foreign languages. Residential learning opportunities are available for students studying French, Russian, Spanish, German, Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Urdu, Italian, Japanese or Persian.
U.Va. has more than 150 partnerships with international institutions, including more than 50 student exchange partners.
The U.Va. network is worldwide with two dozen international alumni clubs on 6 continents.
Approximately 2,000 U.Va. students further their studies, undertake research, or engage in service overseas each year. One third of U.Va. undergraduates currently participate in education abroad at least once during their studies at U.Va.
More than 800 students come to U.Va. from outside the U.S. as undergraduates. More than 1,000 international students are enrolled in a graduate or first-professional degree program.
U.Va. recently introduced a new major in Global Development Studies.
The University's International Residential College is a living and learning residence for undergraduate students seeking a global perspective.
U.Va. benefits from a diverse faculty and staff. 230 U.Va. faculty (10% of the faculty) are international. The professional staff includes 276 internationals, and 101 members of the classified staff are international.
In 2009, U.Va. Chinese students and scholars introduced V Ke: The Chinese Magazine (PDF) at the University of Virginia. Articles range from cultural critiques and movie reviews to daily life stories, poems, and articles on research.
