Faculty Fellows and Graduate Student Fellows
Each year the Institute for Practical Ethics and Public Life seeks to involve selected faculty from UVA and elsewhere and graduate students from UVA in discussions with its faculty on real-world, case-based problems and issues in public policy. The Institute provides office space, modest financial support when possible, and, most importantly, opportunities to participate in Institute seminars and other activities in practical ethics.

Faculty Fellows
Recent faculty fellows at the Institute include Yasunori Ando (Associate Professor, Trattori University, Japan), Tal Brewer (Philosophy), Thomas Smith (Environmental Sciences), Charles Mathewes (Religious Ethics), William F. May (Professor Emeritus, SMU), Phillip Nieburg (former Associate Director for Public Health Practice, Global AIDS Program, National Center for HIV, STD and TB Prevention, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), and Barry Penn Hollar (Professor, Shennandoah University).

For 2008-2009, Aline Kalbian (Associate Professor, Florida State University) will be a Visiting Fellow.

Graduate Student Fellows
Recent graduate fellows include David Tabachnik (Philosophy), Willis Jenkins (Environmental Ethics), Chad Wayner (Religious Ethics) and Jennifer Phillips (Religious Ethics, with a focus on Business Ethics).

Faculty at UVA or other institutions and graduate students at UVA who are interested in exploring possible fellowships at the Institute should get in contact with James F. Childress or Ruth Gaare Bernheim. The Institute is seeking to raise funds to support additional faculty and graduate fellows.
