"The future belongs to the creators and empathizers" -Dan Pink, A Whole New Mind

This class will be an in-depth discussion and practice of how going slow actually creates more energy, creativity and personal fulfillment. We will focus on the ‘Power of the Mind’ as we explore the inner strategies of training the mind for increased awareness, focus, concentration, and energy. Students will leave the class gaining personal knowledge of their own strengths and strategies to effectively slow down in order to accomplish more. This class will have an interdisciplinary approach drawing from academic research from various fields including: Medicine, Arts, Business, Religious Studies, Psychology, and Health Promotion. The design of the class is divided into four topic areas: Stillness, Awareness, Playfulness and Compassion. Students will be required to keep mind-map journals on class readings and create a daily stillness and playful practice. Enrollment limited to 12 IRC residents. Questions may be directed to Marga Odahowski at 924-7767 or marga@virginia.edu. Please also see Marga's faculty page.
