Welcome to Charlottesville!

International women who are married to UVA students, scholars or professors are invited to meet other international women as well as permanent members of the Charlottesville community.

Come meet your neighbors, share friendships and find playmates for your children.  Learn about other cultures and programs of interest.  We will share information about our community and the International Women's Group activities.

Child care is available.

Snow day policy: if Albemarle County Schools are closed the IWG meeting will be cancelled.

International Women's Group SPRING 2009 Activities Calendar

January 8, 10AM Game Day. Come and play bingo. Winners will receive small prizes.

January 22, 10AM Movie Time. We will watch 2 delightful silent movies: The Red Balloon and The Snowman.

February 5, 10 AM Let Us Dance! Edwin Roa and his partner, of Zabor Dance Academy, will entertain us with an exciting performance of salsa dancing. Then they will teach us the basic salsa steps to lively South American music. www.zabordance.com

February 19, 10 AM Massage. Lisa Olko who is a teacher of yoga, massage and healthy lifestyles for mothers and infants, will show us how to massage babies and also how to do adult seated massage to relieve tension in the neck and shoulders.

March 12, 10 AM 13th Annual Concert. Professional members and friends of our group will entertain us with a variety of musical selections. This is our most popular annual event.

March 19, 10AMChocolate making demonstration. Yumiko Womack will show us how she makes her prize-winning delicious chocolates. Look at her website: www.pandorachocolatier.com

April 2, 10 AM Easter Egg Decorating. Instructions, eggs and paint will be provided.

April 16, 10 AM Private Garden Tour We have been invited to visit 2 beautiful private gardens just when spring flowers are at their peak. Meet at the church at 9:30 AM for carpooling, or at 2554 Holkham Drive, home of Mary Eades whose garden we will visit first. Park above 2505 Holkham Drive, home of Fran Boninti, who has also offered to serve us refreshments after the tour of her garden.

April 30, 10 AM Make-up Demonstration. A cosmetics representative will show us techniques to apply make-up by doing demonstrations on members of our group (eyes, cheeks, lips).

May 14, 10 AM Visit McGuffey Arts Center. An informal walk through the Center to see artists at work in their studios and visit the galleries. The Center is at 201 2nd Street N.W. between Jefferson and Market Streets near the Downtown Mall. We will car pool from the Church at 9:45 AM. If you plan to go on your own, there are a few parking spaces behind the Center. Otherwise, park in the Market Street parking garage.

May 28, NOON Farewell Picnic. Meet at noon in Greenleaf Park or at 11:45 AM at the Church for car pooling. Please bring a dish to share. Drinks will be provided.
