IWG Semi-Monthly Meetings
Join us twice a month on Thursday mornings, from 10am to noon, September-May, at Meadows Presbyterian Church, unless otherwise specified.
Child care is available. Snow day policy: if Albemarle County Schools are closed the IWG meeting will be cancelled.
Fall 2007 Activities
30 August, 10am
Welcome coffee. Come and meet other international women from the Charlottesville area. We will share information about our community and our group’s activities. Children are welcome.
13 September, 10am
Cooking demonstration. Members of our group will show us how to prepare some delicious South American dishes.
24 September
Discovery Museum. Monday 10:00 to 11:00 AM (977-1025). Come with or without your children to the Downtown Mall (east end, across from the parking garage) for a special invitation for hands-on learning activities. Members of the International Women’s Group who attend this meeting receive a free one-year family membership. Parking tickets will be stamped for free parking in the garage.
27 September, 10am
Apple picking at Carter’s Mountain Orchard. Bring bags for the apples and your camera to capture the mountain view. We will car pool from the Church. Please arrive a few minutes before 10 AM. (This would be a good time to buy a pumpkin for carving at our next meeting)
11 October, 10am
Pumpkin carving. Get ready for Halloween. Bring a pumpkin to carve and decorate, and bring a marker, a sharp knife and a spoon. We will also share recipes for delicious dishes made from pumpkin.
25 October, 10am
Mystery Auction. This is our International Women’s Group fund raiser for the year. Everyone brings a gift ($5 to $10 in value) wrapped as beautifully as possible. Nobody knows what is in the package but the auctioneer will ask everyone to make offers and the highest offer will win the gift. Great fun. Examples of things you can bring: fancy soap or candles, scarves, food, picture frames, cosmetics, toys, jewelry, DVDs, plants …. For those who prefer to know what they are buying there will also be a silent auction.
8 November, 10am
Diwali Festival of Lights. Our Indian friends will share with us the traditional sights, sounds and tastes of this great annual festival. Henna hand painting and other crafts.
29 November, 10am
Ch’i Kung Class. Hiromi Johnson will lead us in an hour of Ch’i Kung. This Chinese internal martial art, which is done standing or sitting, is designed to increase the body’s flow of energy. Wear comfortable flat shoes.
13 December, 10am
Holiday Crafts Workshop. Make and take home holiday decorations. Members will demonstrate and teach simple holiday crafts. Please bring scissors.
3 January 3, 10am
Game Day. Come and play bingo. Winners will receive small prizes.
