Mission Statement

Since 1826 when the first international student was enrolled, the University of Virginia has accepted a commitment to international students and scholars by providing opportunities to citizens from throughout the world to study, teach, and share the atmosphere of Jeffersonian freedom.

The University considers the admission of qualified students from other countries an intrinsic part of its educational program. International students and scholars enhance the life of the University and contribute to the education and personal growth of all UVA students, faculty members and staff.

As the focal point of international education at UVA, the International Studies Office is well-poised to provide a top-level program of services and advice to all international students and scholars.
