J-1 Exchange Students
J-1 exchange students visit U.Va. as full-time students for a period of usually one or two semesters pursuant to a formal reciprocal exchange agreement between U.Va. and their home institution.
J-1 exchange students must engage in a full-time course of study unless specifically granted permission to drop below full-time by the ISO.
Exchange students must also maintain adequate , complete a Preentrance Health Form, and be familiar with preentrance health requirements.
Prospective exchange students should visit the prospective exchange student page for information on the application process and information regarding coming to U.Va., check in , and financial requirements. Exchange students must demonstrate the availability of at least $6,000 per semester to cover the cost of living in Charlottesville.
Questions regarding housing may be directed to housing@virginia.edu and information regarding availablity can be found at the Housing website. If you choose to arrive earlier than the availability of your accommodations, you will have to arrange hotel stay.
