COMM 3791: Financing New Ventures [3]

This course will examine the challenges, processes, and sources of financing for new ventures in the focused and engaging format of the January Term. Primarily from the perspective of the entrepreneur or business owners, through both empirical field research and analyses, the course will cover the sources and terms of financing, such as bootstrap, friends & family, angel, venture capital, corporate, and bank financing. It will explore the fit and viability of certain sources of financing based on the nature of a venture’s business and the stage of a venture’s maturity. It will explore the basic financial concepts and techniques to determine capital needs, develop appropriate financial models. Under instructor supervision, student teams will collect and analyze case descriptions of actual business problems and decisions and formulate their own business and financing strategies.

COMM 3845: International Business[3]

Course offers an overview of the operations of businesses in a global business environment. The course focuses on the ways that international business differs from domestic business, the scope and and scale of international business, and differences in political economies. The course uses lectures, cases, class exercises, and video materials to illustrate the complexities of the international environment.
