This course will provide an overview of research methods in Public Health. Students will be exposed to an array of methods used to evaluate programs and interventions designed to improve the health of the public. We will focus on the most widely used designs, methods of data collection and analysis, and issues in conducting public health research in communities. Topics will include; surveys, focus groups, needs assessment, community based participatory research, and cultural awareness. A major component of this course will be service based community field work involving either data collection and/or analysis. Students will have the opportunity to partner with members of our local community in conducting a public health research project.
