January Term Information for Visiting Students

Application
Students from other colleges and universities are welcome to apply for admission to January Term. To be eligible for admission, applicants must be at least 18 years of age and be in good academic and disciplinary standing at their home institution. The minimum GPA requirement is 2.75.
The Visiting Student Application should be completed by Friday November 30, 2012. Note that course registration begins November 16, 2012. Many classes fill shortly after registration opens; thus, interested students are advised to apply as soon as possible.
Visiting international students should apply no later than October 29, 2012. Visiting international students should complete the application documents found here.
Individuals admitted for study in January Term receive a notice of acceptance via email. They are subject to all the academic, non-academic, and financial policies and procedures of the University of Virginia. Students are expected to attend each class meeting.
Visiting students enrolled in a J-Term course have all the rights, privileges, and responsibilities of UVa students during the term of study. Admission to January Term does not constitute admission to the University, nor does it allow students to register for courses in subsequent semesters.
Course Registration
Visiting students admitted to January Term may register and pay for their course any time after 8:00 a.m. November 16. Registration and payment are completed through UVa’s Student Information System (SIS). Instructions on registration and payment are provided in the acceptance email.
Students may enroll in only one January Term course.

January Term students pay by the credit hour. Courses are generally three-credit courses.

Guest Housing
A single room can be reserved at $50/night plus taxes. A double will cost $25/night plus taxes. If you are interested in guest housing, please let our office know by December 3, 2012 (do not contact the Cavalier Inn directly) and we will do our best to accommodate you. Space is limited.
Check In: 1/1/2013 and Check Out: 1/11/2013.
If you wish to reserve guest housing, please contact the Office of Summer and Special Academic Programs at 434-924-3371 or januaryterm@virginia.edu by December 3, 2012 (do not contact the Cavalier Inn directly). Rooms will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
