The Jewish Studies Program
at the University of Virginia…
. . . allows students to focus on the history, culture, language, and literature of the Jewish people, as well as the beliefs and practices of Judaism, and the role of the Jews in human civilization. Over thirty faculty members from diverse departments explore Biblical monotheism and ethics, Rabbinic traditions of text study and interpretation, Jewish literary responses to marginality, oppression, and suffering in modern times, and twentieth-century Jewish experience, including the revival of Hebrew as a living language, the history of Israel, and the thriving of diverse forms of Jewish community throughout the world.
