Join the Faculty
None but of the Highest Grade

Nearly 200 Years Ago, Thomas Jefferson reinvented higher education, gathering together a faculty of “none but of the highest grade.” Jefferson’s “academical village” was one in which students and faculty alike lived in close proximity, inspiring each other and reaching together for a higher standard. Two centuries later, as a major research institution, we continue to uphold the ideals that made us unique among universities: our pursuit of discovery through collaboration and cross-disciplinary exploration. And today, our diverse student body, faculty and staff are as rich in background, ideas and perspectives as the world we live in.

UVA still embraces the spirit of progress as we seek new faculty members who are dedicated to challenging conventions, leading with ingenuity and advancing knowledge for the common good. Join us as we continue to reinvent the meaning of higher education.

Happiness is a City in Virginia
In 2014, the U.S. National Bureau of Economic Research named Charlottesville, VA, the “happiest city in America” and for good reason. Located in Central Virginia just east of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Charlottesville offers stunning beauty, extraordinary culture and an inexhaustible list of things to do. From world-class restaurants to cultural events like the Virginia Film Festival to hiking and kayaking along the scenic Rivanna River, Charlottesville offers a quality of life, a community feel and natural beauty that few cities can match.
