Statement from Teresa Sullivan
Sexual and gender-based harassment and interpersonal violence have no place in UVA’s community of trust and respect. The University recently adopted a Policy on Sexual and Gender-Based Harassment and Other Forms of Interpersonal Violence (the “SGBHV Policy”). Under the SGBHV Policy, “Prohibited Conduct” is broadly defined to include Sexual Assault, Sexual Exploitation, Intimate Partner Violence, Stalking, Sexual and Gender-Based Harassment, Complicity in the commission of any prohibited act, and Retaliation against a person for the good faith reporting of any of these forms of conduct or participation in any related investigation or proceeding. When we become aware of an incident of Prohibited Conduct, we are required under federal law to respond and to investigate it, independent of any investigation that may be conducted by law enforcement.
I encourage you to use this “Just Report It” system to report any such incident that you may learn about, witness, or experience firsthand. Your report will be reviewed by the University’s Title IX Coordinator, who will evaluate the information and take appropriate action to protect you and ensure the health and safety of the University community, in accordance with federal law
Thank you for helping us build a more caring community by putting a stop to sexual and gender-based harassment and sexual violence at UVA.
