The University of Virginia's Leadership Development Center (LDC) serves UVa's academic and administrative community in helping you and your staff in:

  • creating a collaborative and productive workplace
  • facilitating organizational and personal change
  • fostering enhanced leadership competency and decision making ability.

Leadership Strategies Program
Fall 2009

The Leadership Strategies Program is the University of Virginia's development program for prospective leaders throughout the institution. Limited to a cohort of 20, topics covered during the program include leadership and competencies, vision and planning, leading change, coaching and developing others, and career development.

REGISTER NOW! Exceptional Asssistant's Network Leaders Program
September 2009
The EAN Leaders Program is a multi-day leadership experience designed to assist employees serving in administrative support or service roles. Participants will engage in a series of topic-specific learning sessions led by a team of experienced organizational development professionals. Sessions are designed to incorporate a high degree of experiential learning through exercises that expand understanding, skill and professional competencies. Content is geared toward the practical, real work issues facing employees in higher education, and specifically those working for UVa. Participants may apply Education Benefits toward the program cost.

Generational Differences
November 5th, 2009
This enlightening, insightful and interactive seminar will help participants Understand more fully the personalities, strengths and challenges of four Generations presently in the workplace: Traditionalists (born between 1922 - 1943), Baby Boomers (1943-1960), Generation X (1960-1980), and Millenials (1980 - present and beyond). Participants will explore together how to effectively work with, develop, manage and lead colleagues of various ages and work experience. Leadership today requires a synthesis of talent acquisition and talent development. Participants will learn best practices for leveraging the generational mix for all organizations to succeed at the highest level.

Leading Through Change
December 15th, 2009
Join us for this half-day workshop seminar which will utilize assessments, individual work, lecture/discussion and small group work. At the conclusion of the program, participants will have completed the following components: understanding change and how it impacts you and your organization; learning how to leverage the strengths of the organization to implement successful change; identify your readiness and stage of transition in relationship to impending changes; evaluation of your team's readiness for change and generating strategies which will facilitate a successful transition for you and your team and acquire knowledge, skills and tools to lead yourself and your associates to achieve greater productivity during times of turbulence and change.
