The UVa Leadership Development Center's consulting team is comprised of internal experts with varied experience in higher education, the corporate sector, and non-profits. Our consultants bring expertise to your programs through years of experience designing effective programming and delivering relevant services covering a full range of topics. Areas of relevant skills cover topics such as leadership and faculty development, diversity, communications, problem solving, team development, strategic planning, and many others.

Brian Bell is the Director of UVa's Leadership Development Center which provides the University's academic and administrative community with state-of-the-art leadership enhancement programs and organizational improvement consultation. Prior to this role, Brian served with the Dean's Office at the School of Medicine where he supported programs focused on leadership development for clinical and research faculty as well as medical department administrators. Brian joined the University of Virginia in 1997 and served for seven years as the Associate Director of Career Development at the Darden Business School where he introduced advanced coaching and career education programs designed to place Darden MBA's in Fortune 500 companies. Prior to working for the University of Virginia, Brian served for more than 10 years as an internal human resources and organizational development consultant for employee and workforce development programs at corporations including the DuPont Company, Union Pacific Railroad, and the Campbell Soup Company. Brian is a graduate of the University of Nebraska where he received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in education.

K. C. Soares, Consultant, part-time, is a management and organization development professional. She is currently developing new programs for the UVa community to be sponsored by the Leadership Development Center. K.C. has worked for international, private and public, educational and non-profit organizations. Her work emphasizes inclusion and participation of people in their organizations. Her Ph.D. and M.S., in Management, is from Cornell University; Scholar-in-Residence at Vanderbilt University; M.S. in Education and B.S. in Business are from the University of Southern California. She has worked in over 35 countries and is published in 11 countries.

Brandie Tatum is the Leadership Development Center's HR Restructuring Coordinator for summer 2008. Pursuing an M.S. in industrial and organizational psychology at Radford University, her professional interests include leadership and change management. In the Leadership Development Center, Brandie supports the human resources restructuring process through project-based initiatives, particularly working with UVa's employee development programming. Brandie has a career coaching and professional advising background as well as experience facilitating leadership coursework at her baccalaureate alma mater, Georgia College.

Susan Wilkes, Ph.D., Consultant, part-time, is an organizational psychologist with extensive experience in leadership and team development, strategic planning, leadership assessment, and executive coaching. Her 22 years of experience in higher education includes five years as director of the faculty and staff leadership program for the Grace E. Harris Leadership Institute at Virginia Commonwealth University and eight years as director of the Workplace Initiatives Program. Wilkes continues to serve as an affiliate faculty member in the Psychology Department at VCU and is the owner of Wilkes Consulting, LLC, a firm specializing in developing leaders in nonprofit organizations and academic institutions. Susan is a highly rated classroom instructor and has published a number of articles and assessment tools in the areas of leadership and team development. She holds bachelors and masters degrees from University of Virginia, as well as a doctorate in Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth.
