Intermediate Honors
Certificates were presented to the top 20 percent of those students who have earned at least 60 credits of course work at the University by the end of their first two years of study. The University's undergraduate schools with first- and second- year students -- the School of Architecture, the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Engineering and Applied Science, and the School of Nursing -- bestowed these awards.

The Thomas Jefferson Award is the highest honor given to a member of the University community who has exemplified in character, work and influence the principles and ideals of Jefferson, and thus advanced the objectives for which he founded the University.

The University of Virginia presented its highest honor, the Thomas Jefferson Award, to Richard J. Bonnie, the University of Virginia's Harrison Foundation Professor of Medicine and Law, and director and co-founder of the Institute of Law, Psychiatry and Public Policy, during Fall Convocation on October 26.

Fall Convocation 2007 was held on Friday, October 26. Dr. Arthur Garson Jr., executive vice president and provost at the University of Virginia, reminded students who receive intermeidate honors at the University's annual Fall Convocation that Thomas Jefferson founded U.Va. with a "unique mission" to prepare students for "a public life."

Garson, the keynote speaker for the convoation, said that the University "instills in every person here the notion of an outer direct mission, one that focuses on preparing its students to become public minded citizen leaders." More.
