A
Message from President John T. Casteen
February
2008
To
Members of the Graduating Class:
As
you near the end of your studies, I write to congratulate
you and to provide information about Finals weekend,
May 17 and 18.
The
Valedictory Exercises will be held on Saturday,
May 17. At Valediction, University awards and
the class gift will be presented. The speaker will be Sheila C. Johnson, a successful businesswoman, a leader in public life in Virginia and nationally, and an ardent advocate for education.
After the ceremony, please plan to join
Betsy and me at Carr’s Hill for a reception to
honor the class of 2008 and your families.
Final
Exercises and diploma ceremonies will be held
on Sunday, May 18. The speaker will be Hunter R. Rawlings III, professor of classics and history and president emeritus of Cornell University. At once joyful and dignified,
the ceremony is a celebration of your achievements.
I think you will find that Finals memorably
honors your years here.
Please
remember that alcoholic beverages are prohibited
on the Lawn and at all diploma ceremonies. Graduating
students or guests who bring alcohol will be asked
to leave the ceremonies.
We
hope that you and your family enjoy the weekend’s
activities. I wish you all the best for the future,
and I invite you to return often to the University.
Sincerely,
John
T. Casteen III
