As Director of Bands at the University of Virginia, William Pease is the Director of the Cavalier Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, and Men's Basketball Band. Mr. Pease was born in Virginia and is a graduate of Princess Anne High School in the Tidewater area. He completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from West Chester University and a Masters of Music in wind band conducting from James Madison University. Mr. Pease is currently completing his D.M.A from James Madison University in wind band conducting.
Andrew D. Koch, Associate Director of Bands (

Andrew Koch assists in the administration and rehearsal of the band program and is director of the Concert Band and Women’s Basketball Band. A native of Southeastern Michigan, he received a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Western Michigan University and a Master of Music Education degree, with a trumpet performance emphasis, from the University of South Carolina in Columbia.
Michael T. Idzior, Assistant Athletics Band Director (

Michael Idzior assists in all aspects of the band program and directs the Olympic Sports Bands. Hailing from Pinconning, Michigan, he received a Bachelor's in Music Education from Western Michigan University in 2004 and earned a Master's Degree in Euphonium Performance from the University of North Texas in 2006.
Patrick Zampetti, Drum Line Coordinator (

Patrick has a long time association in the field of marching percussion. He participated in drum corps as a performer for eight years, served as the Garfield Cadets' Drum Sergeant, and received the prestigious Cadet of the Year Award. He studied at the Drummers’ Collective in New York City and has instructed the Royales (NJ), Colonials (NJ), and Plebes (NJ) drum corps as well as Oliver Ames (MA) and Mills Godwin (VA) high school bands.
Chris Garay, Drum Line Assistant (

) Chris Garay has taught drumset and rudimental percussion privately to students in both New Jersey and Virginia, and he has instructed drumlines from George Mason University, Chantilly High School, Fauquier County High School, and Albemarle High School. Chris is originally from New Jersey, and recently completed his undergraduate work at the University of Virginia, earning a Bachelor of Arts with distinction in Philosophy and Religious Studies.
Diane Gunnels, Baton Twirling Coach (

Diane Gunnels is the baton twirling coach for the Cavalier Marching Band. Mrs. Gunnels was born in Wilmington, North Carolina, and earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, where she majored in social work. She resides in Richmond, Virginia and is the director/coach of the award winning Royalette Baton Corps.
Merav Frazier, Colorguard Coordinator (

) Merav is the Colorguard Instructor for the UVA Cavalier Marching Band. She is a graduate of the University of South Florida with a B.A. in International Studies and a M.A. in Political Science. In addition to her position with the Cavalier Marching Band, Merav also works for the UVA Office of Undergraduate Admission.
Edward Savoy, Executive Assistant (

) Edward is a 2005 graduate of Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania, with his B.A. in English and a 2007 graduate of James Madison University with his M.A. in English Literature. He returns as the Executive Assistant for the Cavalier Marching Band.
Taylor Burrow, Senior Staff Taylor returns to the CMB for the 2009 season as a senior staff assistant after spending four years playing quads in the Virginia Drumline. Taylor graduated from the University of Virginia in May 2009 with a BA in Economics. She will be attending the McIntire School of Commerce this fall, pursuing an MS in Commerce with a concentration in Marketing and Management.
Joshua Richards, Senior Staff Joshua Richards returns to the Cavalier Marching Band as a senior staff assistant for the 2009 season. Joshua graduated from UVa in 2009 with a BS in Environmental Science. Currently, he is working toward his MS in Environmental Science and is leading a research project in West Virginia.
