peaseAs Director of Bands at the University of Virginia, Dr.Pease is the Director of the Cavalier Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, and Men's Basketball Band. Dr. Pease is from the Tidewater area of Virginia. Dr. Pease is married to Linda Pease and they have four children Casey, Neal, Madison and Nicholas. Dr. Pease has degrees from James Madison University and West Chester University.

Andrew Koch assists in the administration and rehearsal of the band program and is director of the Concert Band and Women's Basketball Band. A native of Southeastern Michigan, he received a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Western Michigan University, a Master of Music Education degree, with a trumpet performance emphasis, from the University of South Carolina, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from James Madison University. Dr. Koch was Director of Bands at Chapin High School for 4 years prior to his appointment at UVa in 2005.

 

 


 P. Duane Coston, Assistant Director of Athletic Bands

Duane Coston currently serves as the Assistant Director of Athletic Bands at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. Mr.Coston serves as the low brass specialist with the 320 member Cavalier Marching Band. He also assists with the basketball bands, Wind Ensemble, Concert Band and smaller athletic ensembles. Mr. Coston has serve as a public school educator in Hanover County and Stafford County. Mr. Coston is a 5 time "Honored Educator" in Hanover Co. and an REB Distinguished Educator finalist. Mr. Coston is a member of MENC and Phi Beta Mu. Mr. Coston currently resides in Mechanicsville with his wife Leanne and son Darren. 

 

 

 


Diane Gunnels, Baton Twirling Coach

gunnelsDiane Gunnels is the baton twirling coach for the Cavalier Marching Band. Mrs. Gunnels was born in Wilmington, North Carolina, and earned her Bachelor of Science from Virginia Commonwealth University, where she majored in social work. She resides in Richmond, Virginia and is the director/coach of the award winning Royalette Baton Corps.

Patrick has a long time association in the field of marching percussion. He participated in drum corps as a performer for eight years, served as the Garfield Cadets' Drum Sergeant, and received the prestigious Cadet of the Year Award. He studied at the Drummers' Collective in New York City and has instructed the Royals (NJ), Colonials (NJ), and Plebes (NJ) drum corps as well as Oliver Ames (MA) and Mills Godwin (VA) high school bands.

 

 

 



Andrew Bennett-Jackson, Administrative and Events Assistant

Andrew Bennett-Jackson is the Administrative and Events Assistant for the CMB. Originally from Montclair NJ, he attended UVA and graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in chemistry. During that time he played clarinet for the marching, concert, and basketball bands and has served on the uniform crew for three years. He is also conducting research in the Material Science and Engineering Department on the computational modeling of a thermal simulation of short laser pulses interactions with thin metals.
