Camp will be held on Grounds at the University of Virginia!

All campers will experience life as a Wahoo.  They will stay in the dorms & rehearse in our new $13 million dollar "Hunter Smith Band Building."--a state-of-the-art rehearsal facility. Our camps are unique because UVa faculty teach the camp and our best UVa students play along side the campers every step of the way providing a one-of-a-kind leadership and performance experience.

Drum Major & Student Leader Camp

July 17-20 (Wednesday-Saturday)

Each day of camp will involve leadership seminars, actual experience teaching full ensembles or sectionals, marching fundamentals, and more!  The camp focuses on gaining practical experience.  Rather than learning conducting to a tape, our drum majors conduct live bands.  Student leaders spend a lot of time improving their ability on their instrument and as leaders.  They all work on auditioning and performing solos with a live group.

Color Guard Camp

July 17-20 (Wednesday-Saturday)

A highly qualified staff of color guard instructors will teach fundamental flag basics and routines designed to enhance any program. Individuals, groups, and entire flag corps are welcome to attend. The Color Guard Camp is designed to enhance existing technique for guard, equipment training, and basic dance techniques.

Marching Percussion Camp

July 17-20 (Wednesday-Saturday)

This camp is beneficial to the individual percussionist as well as the entire school drumline. The percussion camp will focus on developing and enhancing the marching percussion technique and leadership.  The camp is taught by Pat Zampetti and Chris Garay, UVa's own percussion instruction team.

Middle School Summer Band Camp

July 13-16 (Saturday-Tuesday)

This camp is open to all students who have completed at least one year of band and will be entering, sixth, seventh, eighth or ninth grade during the upcoming school year.  During this camp, students will be exposed to new musical selections.  The students have the opportunity to gain valuable insights into music interpretation that most musicians at the middle school level do not even consider.  Our camp is unique because UVa students play with the middle school campers at every rehearsal, providing a valuable learning experience.

Feature Twirler Camp

July 17-20 (Wednesday-Saturday)

This camp is open to twirlers of all ages and features UVa’s own feature twirlers and their coach Diane Gunnels as instructors. Participants will learn the importance of multiple baton work and learn several new tricks and combinations.

Special Features (for all camps):

In addition to fun activities that we will have planned for you, the Cavalier Band Camps can offer many things that camps at other universities cannot:

·        Touring of historical sites around the UVa grounds

·        A “HOW-TO” session with a UVa admissions officer on preparing for admission to universities in general and how you can use your marching band and/or twirling experience to your advantage!

·        A special seminar with a UVa exercise nutritionist on exercise and health to help increase power and endurance as a performer

·        A special culminating performance involving all camp groups on the UVa Grounds

·        Use of UVa’s state-of-the-art practice facilities (new in 2011!)
