Outreach
NMP relies on a number of different strategies to communicate its research and analysis to scholars, policy makers, civic and religious leaders, journalists, students, and the broader public.
- Lectures & Conferences. Every year, the NMP hosts one marriage-related lecture in the fall and one marriage and family-related conference in the spring at the University of Virginia. Both the lecture and the conference are open to the public. On October 21, 2009, the NMP will bring Johns Hopkins University Sociology Professor Andrew Cherlin to U.Va. to deliver a lecture entitled, "Not So Sacred Vows: Religion and Marriage in America," based on his new book, The Marriage-Go-Round: The State of Marriage and Family in America Today (Knopf). Professor Cherlin's lecture will be held in the Dome Room of the Rotunda at 4 p.m. In the spring of 2010, the NMP will cosponsor a conference in Barcelona, Spain on the causes and consequences of low fertility in the developed world.
- Media Outreach. The NMP reaches out to print, broadcast, and internet journalists with press releases, publications, and personal interviews.
- Internet Presence. The NMP is committed to developing an active presence on the internet that will encompass project reports, audio reports and interviews, and other resources.
